This year marks the tenth anniversary of the Sacred Art Pilgrim Collection. In celebration of this milestone, I want to take a look back at this decade of art collecting and feature one work by one art-maker currently in the Sacred Artist or Schools of Sacred Art listings once a week for the next twelve months. My 2019 retrospective show begins with a special commemorative piece by Mississippi Visionary Artist Carl Dixon, a friend of the Collection from the very beginning, presenting our dual portrait as "Kingdom Treasure Hunters," a reference to two of Christ's parables, where seeking the Kingdom of God is compared to treasuring-hunting--dare I say, art collecting? In the background of Dixon's painted, carved wood panel, he depicts the Parable of the Pearl of Great Price (Matthew 13: 45-46) on the left and the Parable of the Hidden Treasure (Matthew 13:44) on the right. The only new work to be featured this year, Dixon's 10th anniversary painting joins 26 other pieces already in the gallery of the Carl Dixon profile page in the Sacred Artists section. (John Kohan)
