As we follow Christ through the events of his Passion this Lenten season, I have chosen a new work from the Sacred Art Pilgrim Collection this week showing the Last Supper, a small format print by Polish Graphic Artist Andrzej Buchaniec now on view in the gallery of the East European Ex Libris page in the Schools of Sacred Art section. Buchaniec shows Jesus and his disciples seated at the table in the Upper Room (with Judas shown as a dark imp in the lower right clutching a money bag) in a linocut modeled on traditional Polish folk art woodblock prints. The ex libris was designed to mark books on folklore in the library of the noted Hungarian-Polish vintner, bibliophile and folk art collector, Norbert Lippoczy. (John Kohan)
