To close out a month devoted to African-American art, I've just posted a new carved wood panel painting by Carl Dixon on his Sacred Artist profile page. The subject of this latest Dixon piece is the Parable of the Sower from Matthew 13:3-23. He has compressed all the strands of the story into a single image. As the noon day sun blazes overhead and two travellers head down a dirt road (perhaps, the Good Samaritan!), a sower casts out seed. Some is devoured by birds, while other seed falls among rocks and thorns. In the background, we can see a chapel, symbolizing the seed of Christ's message, which has fallen on good, plowed soil and produced a rich harvest in new believers. (John Kohan)
