Artist in Profile: Albert Decaris (1901-1988)

Continuing this month's theme of French art and artists, I've just uploaded a new profile of Printmaker Albert Decaris in the Sacred Artists section. Decaris is widely regarded as France's Master Engraver of the 20th century, highly skilled in the art of cutting lines directly into metal plates with engraving tools to create everything from over 600 miniature designs for postage stamps to huge images of the Stations of the Cross, made for display in churches. The Sacred Art Pilgrim Collection has recently acquired three large format prints from this series of images of the Passion of Christ, a Greco-Roman styled portrait of Christ, and a suite of colored lithographs, which Decaris created for a 1953 edition of Jesus en son temps, a best-selling study of the life of Christ by French Roman Catholic Author Daniel-Rops.
