Artist in Profile: Paul-Emile Colin (1867-1949)

In tandem with a listing on French Master Engraver Albert Decaris, I've just created a new profile for the Sacred Artists section on French Artist Paul-Emile Colin, who excelled in the detailed art of wood engraving. A medical doctor who dabbled in art, Colin is often described in art history books as a disciple of Post-Impressionist Painter Paul Gauguin, whom Colin came to know at an artists' commune in Brittany in the summer of 1890. Colin went his own way in art, devoting himself, primarily, to book illustration work. The Sacred Art Pilgrim collection has four religious-themed works by Colin: a wood engraving of Dante's Inferno, an etching of the Prodigal Son, an etching of the Nativity in a Sicilian setting, and a watercolor, showing Abraham and his three angelic visitors from the narrative in Genesis 18:1-8.
