On this day honoring the hosts of heaven, I've selected six images by international artists in the Sacred Art Pilgrim Collection, depicting angelic activities in heaven and on earth. The top row shows angels praising God in heaven. French Printmaker Jacques Beltrand offers the most classical view of angelic music makers. An unknown Haitian metalworker has cut out two angels with lute and tambourine from an oil barrel lid. In American Artist Ruth Starr Rose's art deco lithograph, they blast hymns from loudspeakers across the universe. In the lower row, a Salvadoran woodcarver depicts a Guardian Angel. American Folk Artist Carl Dixon shows armed angels at war at a revival meeting. Bulgarian Printmaker Milen Litchkov completes the group with a linocut in Byzantine style of Archangel Michael defeating Satan the Great Dragon at the end of time. (John Kohan)
