It's always a pleasure to find a new Lovis Corinth print to add to the Sacred Art Pilgrim Collection. This beautifully-rendered drypoint, depicting the Archangel Michael, battling against the forces of darkness, can now be seen in the gallery of the Corinth profile page in the Sacred Artists section. The Early Modernist German Artist departs from conventional imagery of winged celestial beings to present Michael the Divine Warrier as a halo-encircled medieval knight in shining armor, who radiates beams of light amid a murky scene of carnage. The Archangel has raised his sword to deliver the coup de grace to a prone man, most likely, an embodiment of Satan. Take a closer look at the surrounding figures and decide, for yourself, if his intervention is welcomed as a deed of deliverance or feared as an act of divine judgment. (John Kohan)
