Artist in Profile: Dean Cornwell (1892-1960)

My second featured artist this week is Kentucky-born Dean Cornwell, dubbed "The Dean of Illustration." Cornwell was a key figure in the Golden Age of American Illustration, when his art appeared in everything from scotch advertisements and War Bond promotions to serialized magazine stories and fiction bestsellers. He traveled to the Holy Land to prepare two splendid suites of sacred art images, published in The City of the Great King (1926) and The Man from Galilee (1928). You can now read a biographical sketch of The Dean and view his illustrations in a new Dean Cornwell profile page in the Sacred Artists section. (John Kohan)
