Minimalist Nativity Set by Sebastian Bergne

And now for something completely different in Nativity sets. British Industrial Designer Sebastian Bergne created this week's new manger scene from the Sacred Art Pilgrimage creche collection in a functional, minimalist style. The viewer decides just who is who at the Bethlehem manger in terms of the shape, color and placement of painted beech wood blocks, drawing on what the Bergne workshop describes as “our learned experience from exposure to thousands of nativity images, toys, and Christmas cards over the years.” The various pieces can be fitted neatly together in the storage box that doubles as the stable once the holiday season is over. This thoroughly modern manger scene can be viewed in the image gallery of the Nativity Sets and Scenes page in the Sacred Schools of Art section. (John Kohan)
