Picture in Focus: A Modern Day Prophet (Micah 6:8) by Wayne Forte

On the eve of one of the most important presidential elections in U.S. history, I am presenting a new charcoal sketch from Filipino-American Artist Wayne Forte of a modern-day prophet willing to speak truth to power.  Messengers of God have never had it easy in calling people to repent. At a time when lying, deception, and demogoguery are the new normal in public life, you have to wonder if the decibel level of our rowdy, rude, and raucous political debate has become too shrill for us to hear any divinely-appointed words.  In this caricature, Forte captures the inevitable moment of confrontation between those who speak timeless truths and those pursuing single issue political agendas, too blinded by pride and prejudice to listen. Our modern day prophet, bearded and robed like a doomsday street preacher, lies trampled underfoot, his bullet-riddled sign fallen in the dust. We ignore the message he has to deliver about what God requires of us from Micah 6:8 at our own peril: ACT JUSTLY. LOVE MERCY. WALK HUMBLY WITH YOUR GOD. (John Kohan)
