Picture in Focus: The Garden of Eden by Eleodora Salvatierra

And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and everything that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good. (Genesis 1:25, KJV)
As we enter the summer season, hoping to put the pandemic behind us, I'll be presenting new art pieces from the Sacred Art Pilgrim Collection for the next several weeks, illustrating the theme of paradise lost--and regained--beginning with images of the Garden of Eden in the Book of Genesis and ending with the vision of a Messianic Kingdom of renewed harmony in the Book of Isaiah. My first selection is an embroidered cloth panel from Peruvian Textile Artist Eleodora Salvatierra, depiciting the animal world on the sixth day of creation, roaming free in paradise before the coming of humans. This charming study of applique giraffes, kangaroos, flamingos, and other exotic creatures can be found in the gallery of the Andeah Arpilleras page in the Schools of Sacred Art section. (John Kohan)
