Artists in Profile: New Iconography of Lviv I & II

During the weeks when I have been posting images of the Passion of Christ by Ukrainian artists, I had the chance to revise and expand the New Iconography of Lviv page in the Schools of Sacred Art section. This week, the listing returns on-line as two entries. The first page will focus, as before, on the many women artists now making icons in this cultural hub of West Ukraine. Male iconographers active in Lviv will now receive the full attention they deserve in the New Iconography of Lviv II page, making its debut this week with new additions like this watercolor of the Deposition by Lviv Iconographer Danylo Movchan. A new feature in both sections are photos of places mentioned in the texts from my first visit to Lviv in 2017. As you view these contemporary sacred art pieces and images, keep in mind that Lviv has, so far, been a safe haven and take off point for hundred of thousands of Ukrainian refugees fleeing the conflict at their eastern border.
