He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young. (Isaiah 40:11, KJV)
Before you head off on a summer search for still waters and green pastures, I've selected art from the Sacred Art Pilgrim Collection with accompanying biblical passages for you to view on the beloved theme of the Good Shepherd. The images are works by Ukrainian Greek Catholic artists belonging to the new school of iconography in the West Ukrainian city of Lviv. My first featured piece comes from Ivan Dashko, who creates contemporary icons in a retro style inspired by sacred imagery from the 15th-16th century, considered to be the golden age of Ukrainian iconography. His timeless image of the Good Shepherd with the sheep that was lost but now found slung over his shoulders can by found in the New Iconography of Lviv II gallery in the Schools of Sacred Art section.
